1861 - A Church Is Born
Founded through the generosity of Pauline Henry in memory of her husband, Dr. Bernard Henry, St. Luke's opened its doors at the beginning of the Civil War.
Richard UpJohn - Designed By A Master Architect
St. Luke's was designed by Richard Upjohn, one of America's most influential Gothic Revival architects and a founder of the American Institute of Architects.
A Growing Parish
As the congregation grew, St. Luke's expanded to include a chapel for Sunday School, a rectory, parish hall, and churchyard, becoming an important part of the surrounding community.
Generations Of Faith
For generations, families have worshipped, celebrated milestones, and laid loved ones to rest at St. Luke's. The churchyard reflects the rich history of the congregation and includes notable Philadelphians, Civil War General Pennock Huey, State Senator Louis Farrell, and Elias Toy, a crew member of Abraham Lincoln's funeral train.
2017 - Historic Landmark
St. Luke's was officially designated a Philadelphia Historic Landmark, recognizing its architectural and historical significance.
Today - A Welcoming Community
A diverse congregation continues the church's mission of worship, fellowship, and service in Northeast Philadelphia.
